If you are travelling to Goa for the first time, I would suggest you plan for at least 5 days. In the five days, you will be able to cover some of the most important places in Goa. These include beaches, forts, cruises, etc.

If you are not from around Goa, the cost of travelling to and from Goa will form the bulk of your 5-day Goa trip cost. You can minimise this cost by choosing to travel using trains. Trains are the most cost-effective way of travelling to Goa. However, if you are short on time, this mode of transport might not work for you.
Below, I have given the cost estimates of travelling to Goa from some of the major Indian cities. If you are visiting Goa from outside India, you also need to add the costs of flights up till these Indian cities as well.
Cost of Travelling to Goa from Delhi
The most convenient way to travel from Delhi to Goa is by train and flights. While flights are the fastest way to reach Goa, they will add extra to the goa trip cost for 5 days.
By Train
Trains are the most cost-effective way to reach Goa from Delhi. There are a number of trains that ply on the route between Delhi and Goa. All the three main railway stations in Goa- Thivim, Vasco De Gama and Madgaon are connected by trains from Delhi.
Of all the options available I would suggest that you book the Rajdhani train. It is the fastest train from Delhi to Goa and takes about 27 hours to reach Goa from Delhi. Your train ticket also includes all the meals. However, it is slightly more expensive than other trains on the same route and does not have a sleeper coach.

Cost of Travelling to Goa from Bangalore
Bangalore is the closest major Indian city to Goa. Goa is about 150km away from Gokarna which is another amazing weekend getaway option form Bangalore. A lot of people prefer to visit Gokarna instead of Goa. You can travel from Bangalore to Goa via train, bus or flight.

Trains are the cheapest way of travelling from Bangalore to Goa. Vasco De Gama and Madgaon railway stations in Goa are connected to Bangalore via one train. There are three trains that run on separate days. The train either starts at 11 am, 2.30 pm or 8 pm and is an overnight journey

Another city that is very close to Goa is Mumbai. Depending on your budget and convenience, you can travel from Mumbai to Goa via train, bus or flight
Apart from public transport, you also have the option of driving from Mumbai to Goa. The experience is amazing and you will be treated with beautiful scenes along the way

I would recommend this option for the most comfortable journey from Mumbai to Goa. There are many trains that connect Mumbai to Madgaon and Thivim Railway stations in Goa. The trains start at different hours and the prices vary from one train to another.

Of all the metropolitan cities, Kolkata is the farthest from Goa. So, the only feasible way to Goa from Kolkata is either by train or by a flight.
By Train
Travelling by train is the cheapest option for reaching Goa from Kolkata. There is one direct train from Howrah Junction to Vasco De Gama and Madgaon junctions. This train runs on alternate days.

Goa is one of the most visited travel destinations in India. Therefore, as with other popular destinations, during the peak season, the cost of accommodation tends to stay high. November to early February is the most visited time of the year in Goa. So, if you plan to visit Goa during this time, be prepared to shell out extra for accommodations.
February to October is a relatively less busy time for Goa. You can find quiet spots on the beaches and it’s not a task to find a suitable budget accommodation option.

When you are travelling within Goa, there are several options you can choose from There are local buses, ferries, taxis and autos. Below I have given a brief overview of each of these options and the costs associated with each one of these.
Local Buses in Goa
Local buses are one of the cheapest modes of travelling in Goa. There are plenty of buses that ply between 7 am to 7 pm. These buses connect most of the visitor attractions in Goa including the beaches.
The main bus stations in Goa are at Mapusa, Panjim, Vasco da Gama, Margao or Madgaon) and Canacona. Panjim is the main stop and you can easily find buses from Panjim to Old Goa, Baga Beach, Calangute Beach and Vagator Beach. Madgaon bus station is another major bus stop. From here you can find buses to Panjim, Ponda (for Elephant Bathing and Spice Plantations) Vagator Beach, Anjuna Beach, Baga Beach, Calangute Beach, etc.

I would strongly recommend this as the preferred mode of travel, especially to those travelling in an even number group. This is the most convenient way of transportation in Goa. Cruises
Goa is well known for its cruises. I would recommend you take the sunset river cruise and dolphin cruise. The cost per person is around 500 INR and 300 INR respectively.
Parties & Casinos
Parties and Casinos are expensive. If you want your Goa trip to be on a budget, I would recommend you avoid these. You may have to shell out between 2000- 5000 INR for a single party or visit to a casino.

Travelling solo is great, but trust me Goa is much more fun with friends. Additionally, you can split the costs on stays and internal transport. For example, riding a scooter would cost you 500 INR per day and therefore, 2500 INR for 5 days. Splitting this with a friend, you will have to pay 1250 INR only! |
Save on shopping
